Origin:

The Sons and Daughters of the United States Colored Troops (S&DUSCT) is chartered by the African-American Civil War Memorial Freedom Foundation(AACWMFF) to augment the Foundation's mission to use the high visibility of the National Monument " the Spirit of Freedom " and the names of 209, 143 U.S. Colored Troops to change the way American History is taught and to motivate young people, especially African-Americans, to civic pride and patriotism on a national basis.

Mission Statement:

The S&DUSCT's primary mission is to honor the historical legacy of those who served in the United States Colored Troops(USCT) and to educate the public to the true role played by free blacks and slaves in the American Civil War of 1860-1865.

Secretary-General:

The Secretary-General of the S&DUSCT is appointed by the AACWMFF to facilitate the establishment of national chapters charted by the AACWMFF to effect the following mission goals:

Establish historical markers/monuments to honor the local legacy of the USCT.
Identify and maintain local USCT burial sites.
Establish and provide support for local educational programs on the USCT historical legacy.

Membership:

Membership will be in two categories in support of the AACWMFF/S&DUSCT missions:

Descendant Members: Will be those who have established an ancestral link to ancestors of black or white soldiers that served in the USCT.
Memorial Members: Will be those who have adopted a USCT soldier.

Genealogy:

In order to assist USCT descendants in locating vital information about their family's heritage, the S&DUSCT will refer members to a Genealogy organization dedicated to this work. They may charge a minimal fee for their services, subject to individual arrangement.
